Following a five-week break, the Kent State University men’s track and field team took top honors in eight events at the Doug Raymond Invitational.
Cory Miller set a personal best by taking top honors in the pole vault with a mark of 16 feet, 6.75 inches.
Others taking top honors included Donovan Tolbert (triple jump, 47-2.25), Cody Jones (high jump, 6-10.75), William Barnes (60 hurdles, 8.22) and the 1,600 relay team of Wayne Gordon, Miles Dunlap, Andrew O’Leary and Danny Young (3 minutes, 18.17 seconds).
• The University of Akron kicked off the indoor track and field season by sweeping Cincinnati in the Akron Opener at Stile Athletics Field House.
The men’s team won 11 of 14 events with redshirt freshman Weronika Gaudyn setting a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 40-03.25.
The men won by a score of 93.50-55.50.
The women also won, 85.50-65.50.
The University of Akron’s opponents for the eight-game Mid-American Conference portion of the 2014 season were announced Thursday.
The Zips will host Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts and Miami and travel to Ball State, Buffalo, Kent State and Ohio.
