OU tops KSU again on last-second shot to steal a 78-73 overtime victory over the Flashes
Stevie Taylor made just one shot Saturday afternoon against Kent State at Ohio University’s Convocation Center, but it was a heart breaker.
It was a game winner, too.
Ohio’s sophomore guard nailed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to go in overtime in Athens to hand the Bobcats a thrilling 78-75 victory over a feisty Kent State team that had battled back from a 15-point deficit early in the second-half to force the extra period.
“Credit Stevie Taylor,” KSU coach Rob Senderoff said. “He hit a big shot. I'm guessing it’s the biggest shot of his career. Great shot by him, great play by him.”
Walter Offutt led Ohio with 17 points and D.J. Cooper contributed 13 points before fouling out late in overtime – ironically the reason Taylor had the opportunity to score the game-winner. Nick Kellogg also added 12 points and Reggie Keely chipped in 10 points to round out double-figure scorers for the Bobcats.
Senior guard Chris Evans recorded his second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Kent State. Sophomore point guard Kris Brewer finished with14 points and a team-high six assists.
The Golden Flashes out-rebounded Ohio 43-30, but committed a season-high 22 turnovers that ultimately proved to be KSU's undoing.
