Flashes win 10-3, face Eastern Michigan today

Beacon Journal staff report

The Kent State baseball team wasted little time getting out to a lead in its 10-3 win in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday night over Northern Illinois at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

The Flashes chased NIU starting pitcher Brandon Copp in the first inning by scoring seven runs on six hits.

Kent State pounded out 15 hits overall.

Sophomore right fielder Jared Bartholomew drove in four runs on three hits. Center fielder Jared Humphreys also had three hits. The top three hitters in the KSU lineup — Chris Tremblay, Doug Sanders and Anthony Gallas — had two hits apiece.

Sophomore pitcher Brad Stillings pitched eight innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked one.

The win places the Flashes in the tournament championship game against Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. today.
