KSU shoots 32 percent, 12-of-21 on free throws

Kent State wrapped up the nonconference portion of its schedule tonight, just not in the fashion the men's basketball team had hoped.
Instead of adding to their recent winning ways, the Golden Flashes fell 73-58 to host Temple in Philadelphia, dropping to .500 on the season with a 7-7 record.
After winning four of its past five games, including two consecutive, KSU went cold offensively, shooting 32 percent for the game and going 12-of-21 (57 percent) from the free-throw line.
''We are still a work in progress,'' Kent State coach Geno Ford said in a statement. ''Our weaknesses have been the same all year so we will continue to work on them.''
Junior guard Tyree Evans led three Flashes scoring in double figures with 17 points. Senior guard Al Fisher followed with 13 points, and junior guard Chris Singletary contributed 12. The rest of the team combined to score just 16 points, including starting senior forward Julian Sullinger, who was scoreless.
With the win, Temple also reached .500 for the season, improving to 6-6 to snap a three-game losing streak that dated to a Dec. 13 upset of Tennessee.
Senior guard Dionte Christmas led the way for the Owls with a game-high 26 points, including three 3-pointers that raised his Atlantic-10 leading total to 46 in 12 games this season.
Kent State's 5-0 run with 4:19 to go in the opening half gave the Flashes a brief 23-22 advantage, but it was their last lead of the game.
The Owls outscored the Flashes 12-2 the rest of the way and took a 34-25 lead at halftime.
The Flashes failed to make the front end of three 1-on-1 situations early in the second half, making it easy for the Owls to maintain a comfortable double-digit advantage.
With nine minutes to go, Evans made back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the visitors within seven at 52-45, but KSU could not build on the run.
The Flashes have the remainder of the week off to practice and to get ready for Ohio, as they next travel to Athens to open Mid-American Conference play at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Bobcats senior forward Jerome Tillman was named MAC East Division Co-Player of the Week today.
He had two double-doubles last week to help lead the Bobcats to two victories. Ohio is 7-6.
