Final thoughts: Cavs 118, Magic 94
ORLANDO, FLA.: Final thoughts from the most lopsided road victory of the season...
* Those who follow the Magic insist they're going to make a run at the Cavs' historic 26-game losing streak -- and they just might. They've lost 28 of 31 and they traded away one of their best players in J.J. Redick at Thursday's trade deadline. Of their final 26 games, 21 of them are against teams headed to the playoffs.
* Why does this matter? Because the Cavs own the Magic's second-round pick, and at this rate, it could be the first pick of the second round. The Cavs were counting on Dwight Howard leaving when they traded Justin Harper to the Magic on draft night in 2011 for the Magic's second-round picks in 2013 and 2014. The Magic aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so both of those picks should be fairly high.
* If everything breaks just right and the Lakers make the playoffs, don't be surprised if the Cavs take that Lakers pick and their two second-round picks (Orlando's and their own) and bundle them together to try and move up into the late lottery. This is what they did last year when they traded up for Tyler Zeller and it's very likely they'd do it again if they found a willing taker around 11 or 12. But those are conversations and stories for another night closer to the draft.
* Alonzo Gee has been working with assistant coach Jamahl Mosley on his stance during recent practices and the extra help appears to be paying off. Gee was standing too upright earlier in the season, and when guys would pass it to him, he had to go low and "load up" before shooting.
* Mosley has been working with Gee to remain lowered in a crouch on offense in a "ready position." Gee is shooting 64 percent (25 of 39) in his last five games. He said tonight he feels rejuvenated after the All-Star break. He admitted he was running on fumes leading up to the All-Star break.
* The Cavs were better defensively in the second half Saturday, but they need a shot blocker. Too many opponents are getting too many open looks/dunks against this defense.
* Gotta love Dick Bavetta. He called a foul on Luke Walton near the end of the game that Walton vehemently protested. Byron Scott called him over and asked if it was a foul. "I gotta be honest," Bavetta told Scott. "I have no idea." Walton cracked up relaying the story. Since the Cavs were up more than 20 and the outcome had been decided, and because Walton is one of the coolest cats in the league, he laughed it off and let it go.
* Cavs are in Miami on Sunday. More LeBron. Can't wait.
