Irving grabs first player of the week award
INDEPENDENCE: Kyrie Irving has been named Eastern Conference player of the week after leading the league in scoring. It is his first player of the week honor.
Irving averaged 35.7 points and shot 61 percent in a remarkable week that also included his first All-Star nomination. The Cavs went 3-0 for their first three-game winning streak in nearly a year.
"He's had probably one of the best weeks of his life," coach Byron Scott said. "I think he'd be the first to admit it's been a great week for him. But he wants to continue to grow as a basketball player and continue to grow as a leader, and keep playing the way he's playing. Just stay aggressive. That's the one thing that he had a tendancy of getting away from from time to time. But now he understands that we need him to be aggressive from the time he steps on the floor to the time he comes out of the game."
The Spurs' Tony Parker won the award for the Western Conference.
