University of Akron men’s basketball player Nikola Cvetinovic was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday.
Cvetinovic, a 6-foot-8 and 230-pound senior forward from Loznica, Serbia, who speaks five languages, also earned two MAC Player of the Week honors last season (Dec. 6 and Feb. 28).
He helped the Zips to a 1-1 record last week with a 76-75 overtime loss to visiting Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday and a 67-51 win at Marshall on Sunday.
Cvetinovic led the Zips against the Rams with a season-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, and had seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
He scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field against the Thundering Herd and added five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Cvetinovic joins juniors Zeke Marshall (Dec. 19) and Quincy Diggs (Nov. 14) as Zips who have earned MAC Player of the Week honors this season.
UA opens MAC play on Saturday at Miami (Ohio) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
