Buffalo scored 23 unanswered points in the second half Tuesday night at UB Stadium to break open a close game and remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference play.
After a scoreless first quarter, Buffalo (7-2, 5-0 MAC) took a 7-0 lead on Branden Oliver’s 2-yard run with 12:24 to play in the half.
The Bulls drove into Ohio (6-3, 3-2) territory on their next drive, but redshirt senior cornerback Travis Carrie picked off Buffalo sophomore quarterback Joe Licata in the end zone, marking Buffalo’s first turnover in five league contests this season.
Redshirt sophomore kicker Josiah Yazdani nailed his seventh field goal of the season — a 23-yard kick — with 37 seconds left in the first half to pull the Bobcats within 7-3.
The Bulls used a safety and Oliver’s 13-yard touchdown run to boost their lead 16-3 slightly more than 5 minutes into the second half.
Licata threw a 25-yard TD pass to Alex Neutz late in the third quarter to boost the Bulls’ margin to 20 points.
Redshirt senior quarterback Tyler Tettleton completed 14-of-31 passes for 126 yards. Redshirt senior running back Beau Blankenship rushed for 68 yards on 20 carries to lead the Bobcats.
Oliver rushed for a game-high 249 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries. Licata completed 13-of-22 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Bowling Green 45, Miami 3
Matt Johnson threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns to spark host Bowling Green to a rout of winless Miami. It was the worst loss Miami has suffered in the 70-game series.
The RedHawks (0-9, 0-5) were within 7-3 early in the second quarter, but the Falcons (6-3, 4-1) scored 38 unanswered points over the ensuing two quarters to take command of the game.
Travis Greene rushed for a game-high 112 yards and pushed his season total to 1,018.
