Angels 4, Tigers 3 — Mark Trumbo homered leading the bottom of the 13th inning and Albert Pujols doubled home two runs, leading the host Los Angeles Angels to a victory over Detroit on Sunday for their second straight series sweep of the Tigers.
Rangers 11, Mariners 3 — Nelson Cruz hit his fifth career grand slam, one of four home runs by the host Texas Rangers in a victory to complete a three-game series sweep over the Seattle Mariners.
Twins 5, White Sox 3 — Josh Willingham atoned for an earlier misplay with a tiebreaking three-run double in Minnesota’s four-run seventh inning, leading the visiting Twins to a victory over the slumping Chicago White Sox.
Rays 8, Athletics 1 — Roberto Hernandez pitched six effective innings for his first win since he was known as Fausto Carmona, and the host Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a victory.
Royals 4, Red Sox 2 — Ervin Santana pitched seven strong innings and the visiting Kansas City Royals ended Boston’s seven-game winning streak.
Royals 5, Red Sox 4 — Lorenzo Cain drew a walk with two outs and the bases loaded in the 10th inning to give Kansas City a victory over host Boston and complete the Royals’ sweep of a day-night doubleheader.
Blue Jays 8, Yankees 4 — J.P. Arencibia hit a two-run homer, Melky Cabrera had three hits and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied for a victory over the visiting New York Yankees after Josh Johnson walked in the tying and go-ahead runs.
Sunday’s National League results
Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 4 — Didi Gregorius hit his second major league home run and singled to start a two-run rally in the ninth inning that led the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks over Colorado and stopped the Rockies’ eight-game winning streak. Gregorius started a comeback from a 3-0 deficit when he homered against Juan Nicasio leading off the fifth.
Giants 5, Padres 0 — Barry Zito and Chad Gaudin combined on a six-hitter, Buster Posey homered and the host San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres to complete a three-game sweep. Zito (3-1) bounced back from the worst start of big league career to defeat the Padres for the first time in nearly two years.
Brewers 4, Cubs 2 — Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer in the fifth then was ejected three innings later, and the host Milwaukee Brewers won over the Chicago Cubs. Wily Peralta (1-1) pitched 6⅔ innings for Milwaukee, giving up two runs and five hits.
Pirates 4, Braves 2 — Slumping Clint Barmes had a pair of run-scoring singles for his first two RBI of the season, including a tiebreaking hit in the sixth inning that led the host Pittsburgh Pirates over Atlanta for their third straight win over the Braves.
Mets 2, Nationals 0 — John Buck hit his seventh home run of the season, Dillon Gee earned his first win and the host New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals to take two of three games from the NL East champions.
Reds 10, Marlins 6 — Brandon Phillips drove in the go-ahead run for the second straight day, Joey Votto homered and collected three hits, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the visiting Miami Marlins for their sixth win in seven games.
Phillies 7, Cardinals 3 — Erik Kratz hit a three-run home run to break the game open in the eighth inning and lead the host Philadelphia Phillies to a win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Sunday’s interleague results
Dodgers 7, Orioles 4 — Mark Ellis drove in three runs, and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat erratic Jake Arrieta and the Baltimore Orioles to snap a six-game losing streak.
