Michael Beaven was born in Akron in 1983 and has been a lifelong resident of the city since.
Beaven graduated from Firestone High School in 2001 and the University of Akron in 2006. He has a bachelor's degree in communications from UA with a minor in political science.
He started his main beat covering high school sports for the Akron Beacon Journal in 2012 while also assisting in coverage of college and professional athletics.
The Akron Beacon Journal hired Beaven in 2003 as a part-time agate clerk. He started his sports writing career in 2004 and has covered high school and college sports for the newspaper on a daily basis in addition to contributing coverage of the Akron Aeros. He also has covered the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers and Browns for the Associated Press and been published in several other newspapers and websites around the U.S.
Beaven received writing awards in 2011 from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists and the Press Club of Cleveland.
In his spare time, Beaven enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, swimming, playing baseball, basketball and volleyball, running and lifting weights.
