Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells will undergo right thumb surgery today and will be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks.
The team said Monday that Wells will have surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedics in Los Angeles.
Wells was hurt during Sunday’s game.
Rockies’ Moyer pitches in 50th park
Colorado’s Jamie Moyer has now pitched in 50 Major League ballparks.
Moyer started for the Rockies in Miami on Monday night, making his debut at the new Marlins Park. The 49-year-old left-hander has played in more parks than any other major-league player going back to at least 1921.
Boston outfielder Ross breaks foot
Boston Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington says outfielder Cody Ross has a broken bone in his left foot and could be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
Ross fouled a ball off his foot in Friday night’s game against Philadelphia. An MRI on Monday revealed a small fracture.
Rangers’ Feliz out with elbow injury
The Texas Rangers placed closer-turned-starter Neftali Feliz on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation Monday.
The Rangers replaced Feliz by recalling right-handed reliever Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.
