Tuesday’s American League results
Orioles 4, Blue Jays 3 — Manny Machado had two hits and two RBI, and the host Baltimore Orioles used a four-run second inning to beat R.A. Dickey and the Toronto Blue Jays. Miguel Gonzalez (2-1) allowed three runs in six innings for the Orioles, who have won nine out of 13. Juan Encarnacion hit a three-run homer for the last-place Blue Jays, who have dropped six out of eight.
Athletics 13, Red Sox 0 — Bartolo Colon allowed three hits and the Oakland Athletics capitalized on eight walks, two balks and two errors to beat the host Boston Red Sox in a rain-shortened seven-inning game. The A’s broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the third when Seth Smith hit a two-run homer, then added two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth as they snapped a four-game losing streak. Colon (3-0) pitched all seven innings and had little trouble in the light-to-medium rain that fell all game. He struck out seven and issued his first walk this season in 25 innings.
Yankees 4, Rays 3 — Ichiro Suzuki hit a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth inning and the visiting New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Robinson Cano ended AL Cy Young Award winner David Price’s night with a leadoff single in the ninth. After two walks loaded the bases, Suzuki hit a liner to center.
Astros 3, Mariners 2 — Marwin Gonzalez homered, Bud Norris rebounded from a tough start and the Houston Astros snapped a three-game losing skid.
Tuesday’s National League results
Cardinals 2, Nationals 0 — Adam Wainwright extended his sterling start to the season — and host Washington’s mediocre one — by coming within two outs of his second shutout. The right-hander (4-1) lowered his ERA to 1.93 by going 8⅓ scoreless innings, allowing only five hits. Allen Craig and Carlos Beltran drove in runs in the fourth off Nationals lefty Ross Detwiler (1-1).
Pirates 2, Phillies 0 — Jeff Locke pitched six smooth innings of two-hit ball and Gaby Sanchez homered off Cole Hamels to lead the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Locke (2-1) struck out six and walked two.
Cubs 4, Reds 2 — Carlos Marmol blew a lead in the ninth inning before Darwin Barney hit his first homer in the 10th inning to help the visiting Chicago Cubs end a four-game losing streak.
Dodgers 7, Mets 2 — Mark Ellis hit two home runs, including a tie-breaking three-run shot to left field in the seventh inning, and two singles and drove in four runs to power the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Justin Sellers added three hits for the Dodgers.
Braves 4, Rockies 3 — Starting a day-night doubleheader that opened with a 23-degree temperature at Coors Field, Justin Upton hit his 10th home run. Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis also connected for the Braves.
Braves 10, Rockies 2 — B.J. and Justin Upton hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to become the second brothers to accomplish that feat and help the Braves complete a sweep of a cold doubleheader.
Tuesday’s interleague results
Twins 4, Marlins 3 — Oswaldo Arcia hit his first career home run and Kevin Correia gave up two runs in seven innings, leading the host Minnesota Twins over the Miami Marlins in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Arcia’s three-run homer in the fourth backed Correia (2-1), who allowed five hits and struck out five.
Marlins 8, Twins 5 — Rob Brantly had three hits and drove in four runs to enable the Miami Marlins to get a split in a doubleheader.
