Tuesday’s American League results
Yankees 8, Blue Jays 4 — Robinson Cano hit his 200th homer among four hits and drove in four runs, Chris Stewart hit a go-ahead three-run drive, and host New York rallied to beat Toronto in the opener of a split doubleheader. Cano hit a three-run homer off Esmil Rogers in the third and added an RBI double in the seventh. Ichiro Suzuki singled and doubled.
Yankees 3, Blue Jays 2 — Jayson Nix hit a tying homer in the seventh inning and a game-ending single in the ninth, lifting host New York to its second comeback victory over Toronto in the nightcap. Ichiro Suzuki pinch ran in the second game and scored the winning run.
Twins 6, Tigers 3 — Justin Morneau had a season-high four hits, including a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Glen Perkins struck out Miguel Cabrera with two on for the final out to help Minnesota hold off host Detroit. Mike Pelfrey (5-10) gave up three runs and seven hits in 6⅔ innings. Rick Porcello (9-7) allowed five runs and seven hits over 4⅓ innings for Detroit.
Rays 7, Orioles 4 — Alex Cobb took a two-hitter into the seventh inning, Matt Joyce drove in three runs and Tampa Bay beat host Baltimore for its sixth win in seven games. Wil Myers had two hits and two RBI for the Rays. Cobb (8-2) allowed two runs, one earned, three hits and four walks in six-plus innings to win his fifth straight. Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez (8-6) took the loss.
White Sox 2, Royals 0 — John Danks shut down Kansas City’s offense for eight innings, and visiting Chicago squeaked out a win. Danks (3-10) ended an eight-start winless streak by scattering seven hits and a walk. Gordon Beckham homered off Ervin Santana (8-7) in the first for the only earned run.
Rangers 4, Astros 2 — Adrian Beltre hit his 26th homer for host Texas in a win over Houston. Beltre’s two-run drive came against rookie right-hander Jarred Cosart (1-1) in the sixth. Beltre also doubled and scored in the second. Matt Dominguez homered for Houston.
Tuesday’s National League results
Diamondbacks 5, Reds 2 — Paul Goldschmidt set a Diamondbacks record with his third grand slam of the season and became the first NL player to drive in 100 runs as Arizona beat host Cincinnati. Goldschmidt connected in the eighth inning off J.J. Hoover.
Rockies 5, Phillies 3 — Troy Tulowitzki and Wilin Rosario homered to lead visiting Colorado past Philadelphia. Jorge De La Rosa (13-6) pitched into the seventh to win his third straight start. Rafael Betancourt tossed a scoreless ninth for his 16th save.
Mets 5, Braves 3 — Zack Wheeler (6-2) pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning as host New York beat Atlanta. Marlon Byrd and Ike Davis homered and Eric Young Jr. sparked the Mets, stealing two bases and scoring twice. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud doubled for his first hit in the majors, ending a 0-for-10 rut.
Dodgers 6, Marlins 4 — Yasiel Puig came off the bench to hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning and help Los Angeles beat host Miami. He entered in the sixth, batted for the first time leading off the eighth and needed only one pitch to break a 4-4 tie.
Brewers 6, Cardinals 3 — Kyle Lohse (9-8) beat the Cardinals for the first time this season and Sean Halton knocked in a career-high three runs to help Milwaukee beat visiting St. Louis.
