Saturday’s American League results
Twins 5, Mariners 4 — Ryan Doumit’s two-run triple off Tom Wilhelmsen with one out in the ninth inning rallied the host Minnesota Twins. Trailing 4-2, Josh Willingham hit a sacrifice fly, and Doumit — who missed the cycle by a home run — drove in two more for the walk-off win. Jason Bay hit two home runs for the Mariners.
Tigers 10, Orioles 3 — Miguel Cabrera’s grand slam capped a wild fourth inning in which Detroit hit four home runs and host Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel was ejected as the Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak. Prince Fielder hit a sixth-inning drive for the Tigers, whose five homers were a season high. Justin Verlander (7-4) allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings.
Royals 4, Rangers 1 — Robbie Ross hit former Green High School standout David Lough with a pitch with the bases loaded to score the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to lift the visiting Kansas City Royals.
Athletics 4, White Sox 3 — Hector Santiago walked Josh Reddick with the bases loaded and two out in the 10th inning to force in the winning run and lift the host Oakland Athletics. The A’s had 16 hits and failed to score after loading the bases with none out in the ninth.
Red Sox 11, Yankees 1 — Mike Napoli hit a grand slam right after a mound conference, Felix Doubront stifled the host Yankees once again and the Boston Red Sox sent New York to its sixth loss in seven games. Daniel Nava added a three-run homer in the eighth inning.
Saturday’s National League results
Cardinals 8, Giants 0 — Rookie Shelby Miller pitched seven shutout innings and backup catcher Tony Cruz hit two doubles and drove in a pair of runs to lead the host St. Louis Cardinals in the first game of a split doubleheader. Miller (6-3) scattered six hits, struck out seven and his ERA dropped to 1.82.
Cardinals 7, Giants 1 — Adam Wainwright struck out 10 in his 14th complete game and third this season, and the Cardinals completed a day-night doubleheader sweep. Carlos Beltran and Ty Wiggington both had two hits and two RBI.
Reds 2, Pirates 0 — Mike Leake allowed no runs on seven hits over six innings and Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto both had a run-scoring single to power the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Pittsburgh’s Alex Presley had three hits.
Brewers 4, Phillies 3 — Jonathan Lucroy homered, Wily Peralta pitched seven strong innings and the visiting Milwaukee Brewers held off a ninth-inning rally. Logan Schafer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Milwaukee.
Marlins 8, Mets 1 — Jose Fernandez pitched seven scoreless innings and had two hits with an RBI to help the host Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets. Fernandez (3-3) allowed just three hits and struck out eight to give the Marlins their fourth winning streak of the season.
Rockies 7, Dodgers 6 — Dexter Fowler’s RBI single down the first base line in the 10th inning lifted the host Colorado Rockies. The Rockies got their fourth win this season in their last at-bat.
Braves 2, Nationals 1 — B.J. Upton’s one-out single to right in the bottom of the 10th drove in pinch-runner Jordan Shaffer and lifted the Atlanta Braves.
