Tuesday’s American League results
Yankees 4, Rangers 3 — Ichiro Suzuki homered off Tanner Scheppers with two out in the ninth inning to lift the host New York Yankees. Suzuki’s drive to right-center was the Yankees’ fourth home run of the game, three coming off Japanese ace Yu Darvish, and it helped New York improve to 4-3 on a homestand that ends after two more games against the Rangers. Travis Hafner, Brett Gardner and Jayson Nix each homered off Darvish, who hasn’t won in seven starts. Leonys Martin connected twice off Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Mariano Rivera (1-1) worked a scoreless ninth for New York.
Angels 14, Tigers 8 — J.B. Shuck had three hits and drove in four runs to pace a 16-hit attack that powered the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Howie Kendrick’s run-scoring single to center in the fifth broke a 2-all tie and ignited an eight-run rally by the Angels that inning. The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but never got any closer than five runs the rest of the game. Torii Hunter had three hits and Miguel Cabrera hit his 21st home run for the Tigers.
Rays 5, Blue Jays 1 — Matt Moore overcame control problems to allow one run over six innings and the host Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Moore (10-3) tied career highs with six walks and 11 strikeouts en route to his 10th win this season.
Tuesday’s National League results
Nationals 7, Diamondbacks 5 — Adam LaRoche hit a three-run homer and Gio Gonzalez won for the first time since May 5 as the host Washington Nationals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jayson Werth added a double, RBI-single and two walks for Washington, which led 6-0 after five innings and snapped a two-game skid. Gonzalez (4-3) went 6⅓ innings, giving up two runs on nine hits.
Brewers 9, Cubs 3 — Jonathon Lucroy’s two-run double capped a five-run rally in the fifth inning that rallied the host Milwaukee Brewers from a 3-1 deficit. Richie Weeks added two home runs and drove in four runs to add to the Brewers’ lead. The Cubs had taken the lead on Nate Schierholtz’s three-run home run in the third inning.
Cardinals 13, Astros 5 — Allen Craig homered and had a season-high four hits with three RBI and Carlos Beltran and David Freese both added a homer as the visiting St. Louis Cardinals rolled. A three-run triple by Matt Carpenter keyed a seven-run rally in the fourth. Jake Westbrook (4-2) didn’t allow a hit until the sixth.
Tuesday’s interleague results
Marlins 4, Twins 2 — Marcell Ozuna drove in two runs and Derek Dietrich homered to help lead the host Miami Marlins. A.J. Ramos (2-2) pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Steve Cishek worked the ninth for his 13th save for the Marlins. Miami starter Jose Fernandez allowed one run and four hits in five innings.
White Sox 5, Mets 4 — Alexei Ramirez singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after host Chicago committed a costly error in the top half of the inning, and Chris Sale struck out 13 batters in eight innings to lead the White Sox.
Braves 4, Royals 3 — Kris Medlen outpitched the Royals’ Ervin Santana over seven innings, Jason Heyward hit a go-ahead homer and the visiting Atlanta Braves’ bullpen hung on.
Red Sox 11, Rockies 4 — Dustin Pedroia drove in four runs and had three of host Boston’s season-high 20 hits, and Ryan Dempster took advantage of an early cushion that kept getting bigger for the Red Sox.
