Bob Welch, the last Major League pitcher to win at least 25 games in a season, has died at the age of 57.
Welch earned the Cy Young Award in 1990 after going 27-6 for the Oakland Athletics. The cause of death wasn’t disclosed.
“He was a legendary pitcher who enjoyed many of his best seasons with the Oakland A’s,” team President Michael Crowley said in a statement.
Welch won 211 games while losing 146 over 17 seasons with Oakland and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
