AL Cy Young Award winner David Price resumed playing catch as part of his rehab program for a strained left triceps.
The Tampa Bay Rays left-hander, who was put on the disabled list for the first time in his career May 16, made 35 throws in right field before Monday’s game against Miami.
“I felt really good ... it felt normal,” Price said. “It was a very positive day. Feeling as good as I did, it’s definitely a relief.”
There is no timeline for when Price will return, but the injury is not expected to pose a long-term problem. Price is 1-4 with a 5.24 ERA after 20-5 in 2012.
Cubs’ reliever out with injury
The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Kyuji Fujikawa on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a right forearm injury.
The right-hander will undergo an MRI today to see if this is related to a muscle strain from April.
Fujikawa pitched 1⅔ scoreless innings in a victory over Cincinnati on Sunday before leaving with the injury.
