Saturday’s American League results
Twins 3, Tigers 2 — Joe Mauer homered and had three hits to help the visiting Minnesota Twins snap a 10-game losing streak. The Twins scored three runs in the first, and that was enough. P.J. Walters (1-0) went six innings, allowing two runs and eight hits.
Angels 7, Royals 0 — Josh Hamilton and Hank Conger homered to back Billy Buckner’s first major-league win since 2009, and the visiting Los Angeles Angels earned their seventh victory in a row.
Orioles 6, Blue Jays 5 — Danny Valencia hit a two-run homer and Adam Jones added a solo shot to help the Baltimore Orioles beat R.A. Dickey and the host Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles won for the fourth time in five games following a six-game losing streak.
Yankees 4, Rays 3 — Lyle Overbay homered with two out in the 11th inning as the visiting New York Yankees rallied late to beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Overbay drilled a 1-0 pitch from Josh Lueke (0-2) into the right-field seats to give New York the lead. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect 11th inning for his 18th consecutive save to start the season.
Athletics 11, Astros 5 — Josh Donaldson had four hits and Chris Young added three as the visiting Oakland Athletics pounded out a season-high 18 hits and scored their most runs in a month.
Saturday’s National League results
Braves 7, Mets 5 — Dan Uggla hit an RBI single in the 10th inning soon after a suspended game resumed to lift the visiting Atlanta Braves.
Braves 6, Mets 0 — Light-hitting pitcher Mike Minor homered for his first two RBI in the majors and struck out 10 as the visiting Atlanta Braves posted their second win in a matter of hours.
Pirates 5, Brewers 2 — Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs, Andrew McCutchen also went deep, and Jeff Locke pitched six shutout innings to lead the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Neil Walker added a solo home run for the Pirates. Locke (5-1) gave up three hits and struck out a season-high seven.
Reds 5, Cubs 2 — Todd Frazier drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and a single and the host Cincinnati Reds used a four-run sixth inning to increase their winning streak to five. The Reds have won 13 of their last 16 games.
Giants 6, Rockies 5 — Angel Pagan hit an inside-the-park home run with a runner aboard in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the San Francisco Giants. Troy Tulowitzki led off the 10th with his 10th home run to put the Rockies ahead 5-4.
Phillies 5, Nationals 3 — Michael Young scored the go-ahead run from first base on Delmon Young’s single in the eighth inning, and Domonic Brown homered and hit an RBI double to lift the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Young walked and came home on Young’s single to the right-field corner, stretching his hand across the plate to beat Bryce Harper’s throw to break a 3-all tie.
Dodgers 5, Cardinals 3 — Adrian Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs, Mark Ellis lined a go-ahead double in the sixth inning and the host Los Angeles Dodgers snapped the Cardinals’ three-game win streak.
Saturday’s interleague result
White Sox 2, Marlins 1 — Conor Gillaspie hit a run-scoring single in the ninth inning to score Dewayne Wise and lift the host Chicago White Sox. Derek Dietrich homered in the ninth to spoil Jake Peavy’s shutout bid.
