Utah Jazz center Enes Kanter will have surgery to repair damage on his dislocated left shoulder and will miss the rest of the season.
The team announced the decision Tuesday before Utah’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Surgery is set for today and will be performed in Chicago by Dr. Guido Marra.
The 20-year old Kanter, who was drafted third overall out of Kentucky in 2011, hinted last week that he might be done when he indicated he was riding a stationary bike to stay in shape for “summer.”
Wade practices with Heat
Dwyane Wade got back on the court with the Miami Heat, if only for a practice.
Wade was ruled out of Tuesday’s home game against the Milwaukee Bucks, the fifth game in a row that the All-Star guard will miss while tending to a sprained ankle and bruised knee.
He did, however, feel well enough to participate in Miami’s shootaround practice Tuesday morning, and will be evaluated again today before the Heat play in Washington.
“He’s making progress,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He’s getting better.”
Anthony passes LeBron
Carmelo Anthony now tops the NBA’s scoring race and its most popular jerseys list.
Anthony took over the No. 1 spot on the league’s sales list Tuesday, moving past MVP LeBron James and becoming the first Knicks player at the top since the first list was released in 2001-02.
Anthony was No. 4 last year on the list, which is based on sales at the NBA Store in New York and on NBAStore.com since last November. The reigning Eastern Conference player of the week edged past Kevin Durant in the scoring race after averaging 41.8 points last week.
Durant was third on the jersey sales list, followed by seven-time No. 1 Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose.
The Knicks remained first in team sales, followed by Miami and the Lakers.
Media honors Battier, Karl
Miami’s Shane Battier and Denver coach George Karl won awards from the Pro Basketball Writers Association for their excellence on the court and with the media. Battier was voted the winner of the Magic Johnson Award. Karl was chosen as the winner Tuesday of the Rudy Tomjanovich award.
