Free-agent wide receiver Domenik Hixon, a University of Akron product, agreed to a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. Hixon started three games last season for the New York Giants and played in 13, recording 39 receptions for 567 yards and two touchdowns. Hixon, who joined the Broncos in 2006 as an undrafted free agent out of UA, could battle with recently signed Ted Ginn Jr., a product of Glenville High School and Ohio State.
Redskins sign Grossman
The Washington Redskins signed quarterbacks Rex Grossman and Pat White to one-year deals while Robert Griffin III recovers from reconstructive knee surgery. Grossman has played nine NFL seasons and took the Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl. White last played in the NFL for the Dolphins in 2009.
Ex-convict joins Falcons
Linebacker Brian Banks signed with the Atlanta Falcons after the former Southern Cal recruit’s football dream was derailed when he was convicted of rape and kidnapping charges a decade ago. Banks, 27, was cleared of the rape conviction in 2012 after the woman recanted. He spent five years in jail and five years on probation.
Bengals acquire Skelton
The Cincinnati Bengals acquired quarterback John Skelton off waivers from Arizona to compete as Andy Dalton’s backup. Skelton was a fifth-round pick from Fordham in 2010 who started in 17 games over three years.
The NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals inside linebacker Daryl Washington for the first four games of the season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Washington made the Pro Bowl as an alternate after leading the Cardinals in 2012 with 140 tackles — 110 of them solo.
Lions welcome Mosley
The Detroit Lions agreed to a two-year deal with defensive tackle C.J. Mosley, a former Browns player who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Mosley spent three seasons with the Jaguars, starting 15 games and recording 136 tackles.

The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, a former All-Pro with the Eagles, to a one-year deal worth $3 million. ... The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, who played in 54 games with Miami, and the re-signing of restricted free agent Clinton McDonald. ... The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent cornerback Tracy Porter, who played only six games last year for the Broncos because of problems with seizures. ... The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed linebacker Stevenson Sylvester to a one-year deal. He has appeared in 41 games.
