1972 Dolphins reunite
Hall of fame coach Don Shula had the 1972 Miami Dolphins over to his house for dinner Thursday night to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of their perfect season.
The Miami dinner was among the festivities this week for the 1972 team, which will be honored at the Dolphins’ game against Jacksonville on Sunday.
Led by such hall of famers as Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Larry Little and Paul Warfield, the 1972 Dolphins went 17-0 — still the only unbeaten, untied team in NFL history.
Most of the team was to attend this week’s events, including safety Jake Scott, the MVP of the Super Bowl, who missed similar reunions.
Braylon Edwards to play
Former Browns receiver Braylon Edwards is back on the field with the New York Jets, and is expected to play against the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.
Edwards was claimed off waivers from Seattle on Tuesday, reuniting the veteran receiver with quarterback Mark Sanchez and the team he helped lead to consecutive AFC title games in 2009 and 2010. Edwards was expected to be a limited participant at practice Thursday with a hamstring issue, but passed his physical and coach Rex Ryan is optimistic about his chances to play.
Deion Branch is back
Deion Branch is back at his Patriots locker where his nameplate never was removed after the two times the team released him this season.
The wide receiver re-signed with New England after missing the past four games.
Branch said he had no intention of playing for another team and wants to retire as a Patriot. The Patriots signed him to add depth after wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth suffered a high right ankle sprain.
Titans sign tight end
The Tennessee Titans signed tight end Brandon Barden from their practice squad, replacing Jared Cook who is out the rest of the season with a torn rotator cuff.
The Titans also signed safety Suaesi Tuimaunei to the practice squad. He signed with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent in 2011 out of Oregon State and was with the Falcons in training camp this season.
The Titans host the New York Jets on Monday night.
Packers linebacker returns
Two days after releasing him, the Green Bay Packers signed linebacker Vic So’oto to their practice squad. So’oto was released Tuesday to make room for defensive tackle Jordan Miller. So’oto’s return was expected, and his locker was left untouched while he cleared waivers.
