NFL notebook: Revised Pro Bowl to feature new draft

Associated Press

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline, a former standout at GlenOak High School and Ohio State, sat out practice Wednesday night, two days after appearing to sustain a minor injury in a practice drill and missing a scrimmage.

Coach Joe Philbin has maintained a policy of not disclosing any information relating to injuries. Hartline worked with trainers in the early part of practice.

Philbin declined Wednesday afternoon to explain wide receiver Mike Wallace being kept out of the scrimmage Monday, but Wallace was practicing Wednesday night. Rookie cornerback Jamar Taylor, a cornerback taken in the second round, returned to practice for the first time since July 22, but on a limited basis.

Receiver Julius Pruitt re-signed with the Dolphins, who cut him near the end of training camp last year. Pruitt played nine games with Miami in 2011.

The Dolphins also signed receiver Keenan Davis, an undrafted rookie free-agent receiver from Iowa.

On the mend

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert was in pads and at practice Wednesday, but still a day away from a full return. Gabbert took limited snaps — none in 11-on-11 drills — while recovering from a sprained right ankle. … New York Jets first-round draft pick Dee Milliner participated in some drills as he joined his teammates on the practice field for the first time in training camp. Milliner says his surgically repaired right shoulder felt “great.” … Mario Williams requires rest and treatment to allow his sore left foot time to heal, Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone says after the defensive end returned to training camp following a two-day absence. … Indianapolis Colts cornerback Greg Toler ended the afternoon practice on the sideline after being diagnosed with a concussion.

Broncos sign center

The Denver Broncos have lured Ryan Lilja out of retirement, agreeing to terms with the offensive lineman Wednesday.

The Broncos are searching for a replacement at center for Dan Koppen, who is out for the season after tearing his left ACL last weekend. Manny Ramirez, who took most of the snaps at center during Denver’s offseason practices, has been filling in for Koppen the last few days in training camp.

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Lilja slid over from guard to center for Kansas City last season, but announced his intention to retire after the Chiefs went 2-14.

Redskins sign Barnett

Veteran linebacker Nick Barnett agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins. Barnett, who has played 10 NFL seasons, agreed to sign late Wednesday after two days of workouts with the team.

The Redskins were looking for depth at linebacker after backup Keenan Robinson tore his left pectoral muscle on the opening day of training camp.

Cooper apologizes

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper says he’s “ashamed and disgusted” with himself for making a racial slur at a Kenny Chesney comment that was caught on video.

Ex-Brown Crespino dies

Former Browns tight end Bobby Crespino died Monday in Atlanta following a long illness.

He was 75. Crispino played with the Browns from 1961-63 and with the New York Giants from 1964-68. He caught 58 passes in his eight-year NFL career.
