NFL preview capsule — Week 6

Giants (0-5) at Bears (3-2)

Time: 8:25 tonight.

Line: Bears by 7.5.

The skinny: I didn’t think the Giants would struggle so badly, but injuries and lack of depth have severely hurt this proud franchise. The Giants haven’t started 0-5 in a nonstrike year since 1979. The G-Men are the first team in NFL history to surrender 31 or more points in the first five games of the season since the 1954 Chicago Cardinals. Yikes! Crazy enough, Big Blue is only two games behind the front-running Cowboys and Eagles, who are both 2-3, in the NFC East (the winner of this division will probably finish 8-8). Although the Giants and Bears have played just 10 times since January 1991, the Bears have only won one home game against the Giants in that span: 20-17 on Sept. 15, 1991. Neither team has great numbers of late. I just can’t recommend the Giants — who haven’t covered yet this season — and especially on the road on a short week.

The pick: Bears.
