Sloppy play by the University of Akron resulted in 22 turnovers, which led to 23 points for opponent Youngstown State in the Zips’ 80-71 defeat.
Four Zips scored in double figures, and they posted a higher team field-goal percentage and collected more rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the points off turnovers.
Junior guard Hanna Luburgh led the Zips in scoring with 18 and Sina King recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Carly Young contributed 16 points off the bench in only 19 minutes of action, and Rachel Tecca scored 10 points of her own.
The Zips do not return to action until after the new year when they travel to 1-10 Chicago State on Jan. 3 for their last nonconference game of the season.
