The University of Akron men’s golf team defeated Ohio 4-2 on Tuesday and finished in seventh place at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Match Play at the Lake Jovita South Course in Dade City, Fla.
Charlie Bull, Carr Vernon, Ryan Harris and Harry Whittle each won to carry the second-seeded Zips to victory.
Bull and Vernon concluded the event with 3-0 records, with Whittle and Harris carding their first wins of the event against Ohio.
The Zips will return to action Feb. 18 when they travel to Mobile, Ala., for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
University of Akron freshman pitcher Erin Seiler was named MAC East Division pitcher of the week Tuesday.
Seiler had two complete-game victories over the weekend at the Eagle Round Robin at Georgia Southern University. The Zips (2-2) defeated Tennessee Tech 9-2 and St. John’s 4-2, and Seiler went the distance in both games and struck out 12.
The Zips will travel to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to compete in the College of Charleston Cougar Classic from Feb 15-17.
Kent State was picked to repeat as the MAC East Division and MAC Tournament champion for the 2013 season in a vote of MAC coaches Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes reached the NCAA Tournament in 2012 by winning their fourth consecutive MAC Tournament and going 24-3 in conference play.
The Flashes will begin the 2013 season this weekend in Wilmington, N.C., with games against UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Tech.
