The Kent State women’s basketball team trailed by two at halftime but were outscored 34-18 in the second half in a 58-40 loss to Western Michigan on Thursday at the M.A.C. Center.
Trisha Krewson led the Golden Flashes (3-19, 1-8 MAC) with nine points as the Flashes did not have a player score in double figures. Heather Bachman led the Flashes with six rebounds. A.J. Johnson scored 19 points and Miracle Woods added 16 points to lead the Broncos (7-15, 3-6).
The Flashes host Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Track and field
Malone University senior Johnnie Legrair was named the National Christian College Athletic Association student athlete of the week for his performance at Saturday’s NCAA Division II meet at the Spire Institute in Geneva.
Legrair (Copley) helped the Pioneers to a second-place finish in the 21-team field, had two first-place finishes and scored a meet-best 23 points.
Legrair placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.19 seconds and finished first in the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 0.75 inches. Legrair also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash.
