Shawn Barber placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 18-02.75 to lead the University of Akron men’s track and field team to an 80-71 win Friday over Kent State at Stile Athletics Field House.
The men won 10 events, including the 60-meter dash, 800-meter run, 60-meter hurdles and all but one field event. Martel Durant (high jump), Daryl Baptiste (long jump), John Dahlstrand (triple jump) and Nicholas Banke joined Barber in the Zips’ domination of the field events.
The Kent State women won 10-of-14 events in an 89-62 win over the UA women. Dior Delophont won the high jump and the triple jump, and the Golden Flashes also got first-place finishes from Katie Reiser (60-meter dash), Shanequa Williams (200-meter dash) and Taylor Farquhar (400-meter dash). Morgan Willis (mile), Jillian Roth (3,000-meter dash) and Alexandra Wood (pole vault) each had first-place finishes for the Zips.
Dustin Kilgore won by pin to extend his dual-meet win streak to 57 matches and the Kent State wrestling team defeated Ohio 26-11. The No. 18-ranked Golden Flashes also got pins from Casey Newburg, Mack McGuire, Stevie Mitcheff, Tommy Sasfy, Nick Carr and Caleb Marsh.
Kyle Gibson scored 22 points and Antoine Agudio had 20 points but the host Charge could not hold onto a one-point halftime lead in a 93-88 loss to the Springfield Armor at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Friday. Ryan Rossiter scored 14 points and Jorge Gutierrez added 13 points for the Charge (13-10).
The Charge host the Armor at 7:30 tonight.
