Akron dropped its third game in a row Saturday to Central Michigan on the road, 92-69 in Mid-American Conference cross-divisional action.
UA (12-7, 3-3) had no remedy for MAC West Player of the Week Crystal Bradford, who led CMU (12-7, 6-0) with 31 points.
Rachel Tecca recorded her 10th 20-point performance of the year, putting up 18 in the first half and 24 points overall. Sina King picked up her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Ruper had four 3-pointers to finish with 16 points.
Track and field
A school record-setting time from Gabriel Genovesi and a big jump from Martel Durant highlighted the final day of the Penn State National for the Zips track and field program Saturday.
Genovesi clocked a time of 1:49.63 in the 800 meters to surpass the previous standard of 1:50.08, which was set by Willie Brown in 2011. Genovesi was fourth overall.
Durant improved once again Saturday with a leap of 7-¼. The mark matched the top jump on the day.
The men’s team swept the top three spots in the pole vault Friday night, and the Zips women did one better winning the top four positions in the event Saturday. Claire Lucas led the way with a jump of 12-11½ and was followed by Chelsey Detwiler (12-7½), Alexandra Wood (12-7½) and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau (12-1½).
Iyisha Weaver took fourth place with a leap of 38-11. Nick Banke also landed in the top three for the Zips, recording a toss of 56-5¾ in the shot put for a third-place finish individually. The Zips 1,600 men’s relay team of Mitch Gordon, Jake Hiltner, J’Lani Pryce and Nick Owens finished third with a time of 3:15.94.
Forward-center JaJuan Johnson scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Canton Charge to a 107-101 victory over the Iowa Energy on Saturday night at the Canton Civic Center.
Guard Jorge Gutierrez had 17 points, hitting 5-of-7 from the floor.
Kyle Gibson added 14 points and Dominique Johnson 13.
The Charge (17-10) host Erie on Wednesday night.
