Hanna Ek shot an 8-over-par 80 on Tuesday to lead the University of Akron women’s golf team to a 14th-place finish at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in Ocala, Fla.
Ek tied for 44th place and was the top finisher for the Zips with a three-day score of 18-over-par 234.
The Zips carded their best team score on Tuesday with a 26-over-par 314 and finished 86 strokes over par for the tournament.
Frida Fougberg and Sara Chaves each tied for 60th place and Sierra Everson tied for 66th place. Tyler Etcheberry finished in 51st place as an individual.
The Zips travel to Hilton Head, S.C., for the Low Country Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Kent State junior Taylor Pendrith was named Mid-American Conference Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week on Monday.
Pendrith won his first career individual title on March 12 with a 1-under-par 215 at the General Hackler Championships at TPC of Myrtle Beach.
Pendrith was fifth heading into the final round and shot a 3-under-par 69 on the final day of the tournament to finish first. The No. 24 Golden Flashes claimed the tournament championship with a 9-over-par 873.
Pendrith is averaging 72.90 strokes per 18 holes this season and will lead the Golden Flashes at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C., on Sunday and Monday.
The University of Akron women’s basketball team will travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday to play Duquesne in the first round of the 2013 Women’s NIT.
The Zips received an at-large bid after posting a program-best 23-9 record.
