Ohio State was chosen by the media as the favorite to win the Big Ten Conference football title. The conference releases only the top three teams in its preseason poll. The Buckeyes were followed by Wisconsin and Illinois.
OSU running back Chris Wells was named preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and teammate James Laurinaitis, a senior All-American linebacker, was named preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
