Ohio prosecutor: keep Clarett in prison,

By Associated Press

COLUMBUS: A prosecutor is opposing former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett's request for early release from prison.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says Clarett hasn't made a strong case that he should be released so early in his prison term.

Clarett was sentenced in September 2006 to serve at least 3 1/2 years for a holdup outside a Columbus bar and a separate highway chase that ended with police finding loaded guns in his SUV.

Clarett has asked the Ohio Parole Board for clemency in the form of a pardon, reprieve or commutation of his sentence.

His attorney says Clarett has an opportunity to play NFL, arena or Canadian professional football if he's released within the next few months.

Clarett, as a tailback, led the Buckeyes to the 2002 national championship.

Let the kid go. Our prisons are overcrowded as it is. Clarett deserves another chance.

Dave,

How many chances do you think Maurice has had in his short but illusrious life? Most of us never get one chance that wasn't self-made. He's blew it, and must be a goof, to throw it all away so casually. Maybe he needs to be scared straight.

Shut up, Dave! My gosh! This soulless thug committed armed robbery! Is there any one among us that doesn't think Clarett has a "killer's mentality?" Grow up, dude! Second chance? HA! The kid's had a million chances! He needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Otherwise, I can see it now: "I wanna play NFL football! I'll be good this time."

OH PLEASE! Stop coddling these athletes and celebrities who are CONVICTED FELONS. Clarett and Vick are TWO PEAS IN A POD. Bad seed. Mark my words, they will kill one day. Keep them locked up as long as humanly possible.
