COLUMBUS: The switch to a nine-game conference schedule in 2016 has caused Big Ten teams to drop one of their non-conference games. For Ohio State, the casualty will be the Central Michigan game.
The Buckeyes were scheduled to play the Chippewas on Sept. 24 in Ohio Stadium but have sent a letter to Central Michigan canceling the game, executive associate athletic director Martin Jarmond said.
Ohio State will open the 2016 season with a Sept. 3 game against visiting Bowling Green, followed by a Sept. 10 home game against Tulsa and a Sept. 17 game at Oklahoma.
