University of Akron senior goalkeeper David Meves was named National Player of the Week by College Soccer News on Monday.
Meves, the NCAA’s all-time shutouts leader, recorded the 51st shutout of his career in a 1-0 victory at Michigan State last Wednesday. The previous record holder was Wake Forest’s Josh Ford, who had 50 shutouts from 2007-10.
Meves has allowed just six goals in 1,660 minutes during the 2012 season. He is the Zips’ (15-1-2, 7-0-0 Mid-American Conference) all-time leader in wins (74), minutes played and shutouts.
The University of Mount Union announced that soccer coach John Witkowski has resigned.
Witkowski went 43-54-13 in six seasons and led the program to its first ever Ohio Athletic Conference tournament win in 2011.
