Marla Ridenour bio


The first woman to cover the Cleveland Browns in 1981, Marla Ridenour has been a sports writer for over 30 years. Before joining the Beacon Journal in 1999, she worked at the Columbus Dispatch, the Dayton Daily News and the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader. While professional football has been her major emphasis since the Browns' Kardiac Kids days, she's also reported on major sporting events like the Kentucky Derby, all four of golf's majors and Ohio State football and basketball championship games.

Marla's stories have received awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors, including a top 10 game story in 2003, the Ohio Associated Press, Kentucky Press Association, the Golf Writers Association of America and the Pro Football Writers of America.

A native of Louisville, Ky., she is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a double major in journalism and marketing.
