Akron scored twice in the top of the ninth to send the game into extra innings, where a tenth-inning Giovanny Urshela RBI double gave the team a 7-6 victory over Reading on Sunday afternoon.
The ninth-inning comeback was Akron’s second of the series and of the season. Going into the Reading series, the Aeros were 0-15 when trailing after eight innings.
This win puts Akron over the .500 mark (19-18) and in second place in the Eastern League West, just three games behind Erie.
Trailing 6-4 in the ninth inning, Urshela scored on a wild pitch and Jesus Aguilar singled home Tyler Holt to tie the game. Aguilar also homered and now leads the Eastern League with 32 RBI.
Jose Flores earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief, lowering his ERA to just 0.96.
