Altoona shutout the Aeros 7-0 in the first game of a four-game series Thursday night at Canal Park.
Curve starter and left-handed pitcher Eliecer Navarro (2-2, 4.82 ERA) tossed six shutout innings, and was backed by three Curve relievers who kept the Aeros off the board as the visitors combined to limit Akron’s offense to seven hits in the shutout loss.
Left fielder Kyle Bellows was the only Aeros batter to garner multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Aeros starter and right-handed pitcher Brett Brach held the Curve to two runs over five innings, but dropped to 5-5 with the loss.
The only Aeros pitcher effective in relief was right-hander Enosil Tejeda, who twirled two shutout innings. Meanwhile, right-handers Shawn Armstrong and J.D. Reichenbach labored in each of their innings, combined to dish up five runs, as the Cruve tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth against Armstrong and three more insurance runs against Reichenbach in the ninth inning.
Aeros right-hander Will Roberts (6-6, 4.46 ERA) is slated to face Curve right-hander Nick Kingham (1-2, 3.86 ERA) Friday at Canal Park beginning at 7:05 p.m.
