The Aeros scored first, leading 2-0 by the third inning, but those two runs were all they were able to manage with their 10 hits during Monday’s road game.
Akron went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.
Matt Packer started on the bump and took the loss, falling to 1-5. He threw 5⅔ innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, striking out four and walking one.
Justin Toole led the Aeros (19-19) at the plate, reaching base four times with three singles and a walk. He also scored and drove in a run.
Carlos Moncrief drove in a run with a single and a double.
Kyle Bellows added two singles for the Aeros.
Rafael Montero earned the win for the Mets (20-18), giving up two runs on eight hits in six innings of work, improving to 4-3. He struck out six and walked none.
Jeff Walters shut the door in the ninth, earning his 10th save of the season.
Akron will play game 2 of its three-game series in Binghamton today at 6:35 p.m.
