Ellet 53, North 8
Junior Jacob Ivery and senior Matt Geer each rushed for two touchdowns, and the host Orangemen (10-0, 5-0 City Series) defeated the Vikings (1-9, 0-6) to clinch their second consecutive City Series title and go undefeated for the first time since 1933.
The Orangemen will make their second consecutive playoff appearance and third since 1991. The Orangemen also become the first team in the City Series to go undefeated in the regular season since the 1983 Garfield Golden Rams.
The Orangemen scored 31 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second on their way to a 45-0 halftime lead. Senior Edward Harris scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 50 seconds left for the Vikings.
Senior Gerald Ivery scored his first career touchdown and sophomore Justin Watson had a 9-yard touchdown run for his first score in his first high school game for the Orangemen.
Firestone 21, Garfield 14
Senior Brennan Williams scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds remaining in the game to give the host Falcons (2-8, 2-4) the win over the Golden Rams (5-5, 3-3).
The Golden Rams led 14-7 in the third quarter before Falcons freshman Domonte Swain returned a kickoff 58 yards for a touchdown to tie the score. The Golden Rams had an opportunity to win in the final seconds but the potential winning touchdown pass was batted down in the end zone as time expired.
Darrion Powers rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown and Eric Bussey returned a fumble recovery 78 yards for a touchdown to lead the Golden Rams. Deon Brooks threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Rodney Austin for the Falcons.
Tallmadge 30, Green 27
Junior Justin Brown kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired to give the visiting Blue Devils (6-4, 4-3) the Suburban League win over the Bulldogs (5-5, 3-4).
The Bulldogs led 27-13 in the third quarter before senior Bobby Clark (20 carries for 210 yards) had a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a 72-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to tie the score.
Revere 32, Copley 27
Junior Chase Constanzo threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to junior Austin Hawkins with eight minutes left in the game to give the visiting Minutemen (3-7, 2-5) the win over the Indians (4-6, 1-6).
Costanzo threw for 383 yards and four touchdowns, and junior Zach Lalkowski caught 13 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns for the Minutemen.
Junior Aulden Knight rushed for 252 yards and three touchdowns for the Indians.
Highland 49, Cloverleaf 7
Bruce Kinsey threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another to lead the host Hornets (10-0, 7-0) over the Colts (2-8, 0-7) to cap their Suburban League championship. Alex Harris rushed for two touchdowns, and Tyler Frederick and Blake Phillips each rushed for the Hornets.
Stow 31, North Royalton 23
Brian Groves threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Zaire Lewis, and Groves had a 3-yard touchdown run to rally the visiting Bulldogs (9-1, 5-0).
The Bulldogs trailed 23-17 before scoring 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter for the win. Groves also had a 10-yard touchdown run and Andy Wargo threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Jonte Pooler for the Bulldogs.
Hudson 37, Twinsburg 27
Mitchell Guadagni threw four touchdown passes to Reid Robinson and also rushed for a touchdown for the host Explorers (9-1, 4-1).
Manchester 21, CVCA 20
Pavin Parks connected with Jesse Winter for a 2-point conversion after junior Mason Hayes scored with 3:50 remaining in the game, but it was a missed extra point by the Royals (5-5, 4-3) that gave the host Panthers (8-2, 5-2) the win.
The Royals trailed by seven after Hayes’ touchdown and scored with 1:50 remaining in the game when Brandon Beausoleil threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jake Butler to cut the deficit to one point. The Royals could not complete the comeback after the possible game-tying extra-point attempt failed. Hayes rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns and senior Austin Klein had a rushing touchdown for the Panthers. Senior Andrew Schauer rushed for two touchdowns for CVCA.
Mogadore 24, Southeast 7
Junior Dominik Pizzino had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 4-yard touchdown run for the host Wildcats (9-1, 5-1). Junior Brandon Berry rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats and Quinn Porter had a 4-yard touchdown run for the Pirates (5-5, 2-4).
Streetsboro 42, Waterloo 7
Junior Prince Franklin rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns, and the host Rockets (5-5, 3-3) defeated the Vikings (2-8, 2-4). Freshman Dakari Carter had a rushing touchdown and also threw for a touchdown for the Rockets.
Louisville 42, Canton South 21
Walter Schrock rushed for two touchdowns and Connor Zwick threw for 145 yards and a touchdown to give the visiting Leopards (10-0, 7-0) the win and the league title.
