Despite the glaring need for a small forward, I maintain the Cavs’ biggest need is a big man. If Mo Speights leaves after the season, the Cavs’ only big men will be Tristan Thompson, Luke Walton and Anderson Varejao. Given Varejao’s lengthy injury history, expecting him to suddenly play 82 games would be a mistake.

It’s highly doubtful Mo Speights is back next season. With about half the teams in the league owning a significant amount of cap space this summer, there isn’t much reason for Speights to pick up his option. And the Cavs aren’t expected to negotiate a long-term contract for a reserve. And the odds are better the Cavs will sign you to play power forward next season than them making the playoffs this year.

Excellent assumption. If the Cavs make a move this summer, it will be through trade. They won’t be aggressive in free agency because teams have a habit of overpaying in July for marginal talent the rest of the year.
Out of Speights, Ellington and Livingston, which one is most likely to return next year? @AustenB5
I’ll say Shaun Livingston for the way he has solidified the backup point guard position. Livington’s length allows him to defend multiple positions and his height allows him to see over opposing point guards. Byron Scott has been infatuated with Livingston for a few years now. The Cavs can make Ellington a restricted free agent by tendering him a qualifying offer.
Simply guessing today, I’d say Livingston and Ellington are back next season and Speights is gone.

He is attacking the lane and getting to the rim with much more frequency than he was early in the season when he was settling for too many jump shots.
