No. 1 Mount Union 62, Capital 0
Mount Union extended its regular season winning streak to 69 games and its shutout streak to five games with a thrashing of Capital on homecoming at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (6-0, 5-0) turned defense into offense with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, both by senior Isaiah Scott. Scott and Mount Union’s No. 1 ranked defense held Capital (1-5) to 107 total yards of offense.
Quarterback Kevin Burke threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 5-10 passing and rushed for 71 yards and another score. Receiver Jasper Collins had five catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
Lake Erie 35, Malone 24
Malone battled back from an early deficit to hold a third quarter lead but couldn’t sustain any offense in a road conference loss to Lake Erie College.
The Pioneers (1-5, 1-5) scored 17 unanswered points midway through the game to lead 24-21 in the third quarter before Lake Erie’s offense found a rhythm.
The Storm (2-5, 2-4) ran at will on Malone to the tune of 293 yards rushing.
Quarterback Will Szpor threw for 204 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions on 15-32 passing. Receiver Justin McClean caught four passes for 48 yards and a score.
No. 8 Ashland 30, Walsh 0
Walsh couldn’t get anything going against Ashland (7-0, 6-0) and was shut out for the first time in 10 years in a road rout.
Walsh’s offense could only generate 116 total yards on Saturday. Toba Olarewaju ran for a team-high 53 yards on 18 carries.
Wooster 45, Hiram 14
Wooster took to the air and the ground to pile up 539 yards of total offense and cruise past Hiram at home.
The Fighting Scots (2-4) threw for 296 and ran for 243 to keep the Terriers winless (0-6) in 2012. Richard Barnes threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns. John Battaglia (77 yards) and Chase Ullman (68 yards, two touchdowns) led the running game.
