Friday’s American League results
Yankees 9, Blue Jays 4 — Andy Pettitte (3-0) pitched effectively into the eighth inning, Travis Hafner homered and had two RBI and the visiting New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Lyle Overbay and Vernon Wells also went deep as the Yankees won for the eighth time in 10 games.
Rays 8, Athletics 3 — Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer and Ben Zobrist had a pair of RBI singles to help the host Tampa Bay Rays beat the Oakland Athletics. Jose Lobaton also drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single to back the pitching of Alex Cobb (2-1). Brandon Moss and Jed Lowrie, who went 4-for-4, had run-scoring singles in the first for the A’s.
Rangers 7, Mariners 0 — Yu Darvish threw seven shutout innings and the host Texas Rangers blew open a 1-0 game with a six-run rally in the fifth inning highlighted by Craig Gentry’s two-run triple. Darvish (3-1) struck out 10 and allowed three hits.
Twins at White Sox, ppd. — The Minnesota Twins’ series opener in Chicago against the White Sox was called off due to a forecast of cold, windy weather. The makeup date will be announced later.
Royals at Red Sox, ppd. — The game between the Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox scheduled for Fenway Park was postponed while authorities pursued a suspect in Monday’s bombings.
Friday’s National League results
Phillies 8, Cardinals 2 — Roy Halladay tossed a two-hitter over seven innings and the host Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals in a rain-shortened game to snap a four-game losing streak. Halladay (2-2) allowed two runs, walked two and struck out six. Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday homered for the Cardinals.
Marlins 2, Reds 1 — Justin Ruggiano hit a solo homer off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning to enable the visiting Miami Marlins to snap the Cincinnati Reds’ winning streak at four games. Chapman (2-1) hadn’t allowed a run in his eight previous appearances. Ruggiano connected on a 3-1 pitch, driving it deep to center for his third homer.
Mets 7, Nationals 1 — Matt Harvey outpitched Stephen Strasburg (1-3) in a marquee matchup of young aces, escaping a late bases-loaded jam while the crowd chanted his name and leading the host New York Mets over the Washington Nationals. Ike Davis and Lucas Duda each hit two home runs, providing an ample cushion for Harvey (4-0).
Pirates 6, Braves 0 — Wandy Rodriguez faced the minimum while throwing seven innings of 1-hit ball to outpitch Tim Hudson help the host Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves. Pedro Alvarez homered for the second consecutive game for Pittsburgh. Rodriguez (2-0) allowed only Jason Heyward’s single in the fourth.
Brewers 5, Cubs 4 — Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer to highlight a four-run first-inning rally that powered the host Milwaukee Brewers.
Rockies 3, Diamondbacks 1 — Jhoulys Chacin pitched effectively into the seventh inning and became the first Rockies starter to throw 100 pitches in a game since last June before leaving with an injury and Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer to lift host Colorado.

Dodgers at Orioles, ppd. — The game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards was postponed by rain. The game was rescheduled for 1:05 p.m. today as part of a split doubleheader.
