The conference announced that Kent State University is the recipient of the annual Cartwright Award, given for a program’s excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship during the 2012-13 school year.
The award will be presented to the university Saturday during the Golden Flashes’ home football game against Bowling Green.
Toledo won the award last year. The Golden Flashes last won it in 2009-10.
• Kent State University’s men’s basketball schedule was announced Tuesday for the 2013-14 season.
The Mid-American Conference will return to the 18-game format it last used in the 2005-06 season.
The regular season will begin conference play on Jan. 8 when the Golden Flashes host Ohio.
The Golden Flashes will host rival Akron on Feb. 1 in the first of two scheduled meetings as part of the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge. The regular-season finale will be in Akron on either March 7 or 8.
• The University of Akron women’s schedule was announced Tuesday for the 2013-14 season.
The Mid-American Conference will use an 18-game conference schedule for the first time.
The regular season will begin Nov. 8 when the Zips host Florida Atlantic.
The Zips will host Kent State as part of the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge on Jan. 18 and travel to KSU on March 2.

The conference season will tip off Jan. 4 when the Golden Flashes will host Eastern Michigan.
