The Kent State women’s soccer team won on a golden goal in the 103rd minute to take a 3-2 victory over the University of Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Morgan Mah scored the game-winner in the second overtime period. Jaclyn Dutton had two other goals for KSU (8-3-2, 3-2-1 Mid-American Conference), including a game-tying penalty kick to force overtime. Ashley Hughes of the Zips (4-9-0, 0-6-0) scored two goals.
University of Akron junior Ksenia Berestetska scored a comeback victory to claim the title of flight C singles in the final day of the University of Akron women’s tennis team’s participation in Michigan State’s 23rd annual Spartan Invitational on Sunday.
High school tennis
Tessa Hill of Jackson defeated Allison Pavlansky of Canfield for the Canton Division I sectional singles title. Also headed to the Oberlin District are Danielle Beyes of Green, who took third over Katherine McCauley of Lake.
The Canton Division II sectional was won by Theresa Reinhard of St. Thomas Aquinas, who beat Neya Sterling of St. Thomas Aquinas. Bella Sirpilla of Canton Central Catholic defeated Anne Kramer of Hoban for third place. Doubles teams from Field, St. Thomas Aquinas, Norton and Hoban also qualified.
