Americans capture
bobsled win in Utah

Steven Holcomb raced to his second straight World Cup two-man bobsled victory, pairing with Curtis Tomasevicz on Friday to edge American teammates Cory Butner and Charles Berkeley at Utah Olympic Park.

• Reigning world champ Katie Uhlaender edged Britain’s Elizabeth Yarnold by one-hundredth of a second to win the World Cup skeleton event at Utah Olympic Park.

• American skater Jeremy Abbott led the men’s short program at the Trophee Bompard in Paris. Russian teen Julia Lipnitskaia had the top score in the women’s event.

• Olympic champion Sven Kramer, a Dutchman, won the first 5,000-meter race of the speedskating World Cup in Heerenveen, Netherlands.

GOLF

Ai Miyazato leads
in finale for LPGA

• Ai Miyazato of Japan had an 8-under 64 for a 1-shot lead in the season-ending LPGA Titleholders in Naples, Fla. She had a 1-shot lead over South Korean Na Yeon Choi.

• New Zealand’s Michael Campbell shot a 6-under 64 for a 1-stroke lead in the Hong Kong Open. Top-ranked defending champion Rory McIlroy missed the cut.

• Australia’s Matthew Guyatt shot a 3-under 69 to maintain a 2-stroke lead after the second round of the Australian Masters.

Henrik Stenson opened a 4-shot lead at the South African Open in Johannesburg with a second-round 65 before a storm postponed play.

Russ Cochran shot a 7-under 65 at Del Monte for a share of the Pebble Beach Invitational lead with Kirk Triplett. Triplett had a 69.

SWIMMING

Olympic medalist
sets world record

• Olympic gold medalist Camille Muffat set a short-course world record in the 800-meter freestyle at the French swimming championships. Muffat finished in a time of 8 minutes, 1.06 seconds during the heats.

• Olympic star Sun Yang picked up his second gold medal of the Asian swimming championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Sun won the 400-meter freestyle in a championship record 3:42.49.

Ex-WNBA star held
on assault charge

• An Atlanta judge set bond at $100,000 for ex-WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw, 35, who is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony. She allegedly fired a shot into a car belonging to her ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lacy, 29, who plays for the Tulsa Shock.

• Eastern Michigan benched junior forward James Still until a 2010 assault case against him is resolved in Providence, R.I.

• Hong Kong driver Phillip Yau Wing-choi was killed in a crash during qualifying at the Macau Grand Prix, one day after Portuguese motorcyclist Luis Filipe de Sousa Carreira died in an accident on the same track.
