The University of Akron announced that 6-foot-11 center Patrick Forsythe is eligible for the 2012-13 basketball season and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited for Pat and his family that he will be able to play this season," coach Keith Dambrot said in a news release. "Any time you can get a player with Pat's size and skill is a benefit to the team. He makes us one of the more physical teams in the country."
The former Brunswick star will be granted a hardship waiver so that he can play this season, a decision that will likely bolster the Zips prospect. Forsythe transferred from West Virginia University recently to be closer to his father, who is blind.
He appeared in seven games for the Mountaineers, averaging 2.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Forsythe was an All-Ohio Division I first-team selection as a senior at Brunswick, where he averaged 22.5 points, 12.6 rebounds and 6.1 blocks. He was named the district player of the year and chose West Virginia over scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Cincinnati.
