Sports News Roundup: Columbus Crew players have surgery

Associated Press The Columbus Crew announced Friday that defender Josh Williams and midfielder Kingsley “Fifi” Baiden have undergone surgery that will sideline them for extended periods. Williams underwent surgery Wednesday to remove his first rib because of compression on the vein that was causing clotting problems. He was discharged Friday and is at home recovering. He will be reassessed in two months. Baiden is expected to have surgery on his left hip July 23 to repair a torn labrum that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. Williams has been placed on the disabled list and will miss a league minimum of six matches. Baiden was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list.
