Archer still undecided on his future, plans to make decision after Jan. 6 bowl game

Just before the Christmas holiday, Kent State football do-it-all Dri Archer went home to Laurel, Fla., anticipating talking with his mother and making a huge decision for his future.

While Archer enjoyed time at home with his mom Valerie and little nephew Elijah, he decided to postpone making his decision about whwther he'll return to KSU for his senior season next year or declare for the upcoming NFL draft.

"We talked a little bit, but we're gonna talk more after the (bowl) game," Archer said. " I don't want to put too many thoughts in my head, I just wanna worry about the game. We were gonna sit down with somebody else and talk too, and she asked me if I wanted to do it now or wait until after the game and I told her to just wait until after the game."

So for now, Archer is focusing on the Golden Flashes Jan. 6 appearance in the GoDaddy.com Bowl against Arkansas State. In the meantime, he enjoyed time with his family.

"Being home was my favorite presen," Archer said. "I got to spend some time with my nephew We went to Bushg Gardens, went and saw Santa. Today (Friday) is his birthday actually. He's turning one."

Before the holiday, Archer admitted he wouldn't be considering leaving school early if second-year coach Darrell Hazell wasn't leaving for Purdue after the bowl game. But since Hazell's Dec. 5 announcement, Archer has been pondering whether he's better served leaving KSU behind as well.  

"There's a lot of pros and cons on both sides," he said. "Coming back I could gert hurt. I could have a good season, I could have a bad season. We'll have a new coaching staff, new guys on the offensive line. There's a lot of back-and-forth. I don't want to be in the future and sit back and be like, 'I should have made that decision.' I want to make the right choice."
