Nate Ulrich was born and raised in Akron. He graduated from Firestone High School and Kent State University.
Ulrich started in the newspaper business as a part-time agate clerk, sports writer and copy editor at the Akron Beacon Journal during his college years. From 2008-2010, he worked at The Times of Northwest Indiana, where he won Associated Press Sports Editors writing awards in consecutive years.
