The University of Akron women’s basketball team trailed by nine points at halftime but outscored Ohio by 15 points in the second half for a 71-65 Mid-American Conference win at Rhodes Arena on Tuesday.
Sina King scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Zips (12-14, 6-6 MAC) to their third win in a row. Carly Young and Hanna Luburgh scored 14 points each for the Zips.
The Zips led by one with 5:54 to play when Luburgh, Jasmine Mushington and Williams each made clutch field goals to enable the Zips to hold a 67-60 lead with 1:33 to play.
The Zips held the Bobcats scoreless in the final 2:45 and went 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Tenishia Benson (Hoban) led the Bobcats (11-15, 4-8) with 19 points. Natasha Williams scored eight points for the Zips, who host Bowling Green at 2 p.m. Saturday.
