Zips blank Bulls, stay unbeaten in MAC
The University of Akron men's soccer team defeated host Buffalo 1-0 on Friday night in a steady rain to stay undefeated in the Mid-American Conference.
Junior Matt Tutich scored for the Zips (11-3-2, 3-0-1) off an assist from freshman Steve Zakuani.
The win puts UA, ranked No. 16 by College Soccer News and Soccer Times, in first place in the MAC with Buffalo (9-4-2, 3-1-0) in second place.
Tutich's goal came from about 6 yards from the net and was his fourth of the season.
UA held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal, as the Bulls lone shot on goal was saved by Zips junior goalkeeper Evan Bush.
The win for UA comes after a 1-0 double overtime loss at Michigan this past Wednesday.
''It takes a special group to respond like we did tonight after a devastating loss on Wednesday,'' UA coach Caleb Porter said. ''Not many teams could turn around, drive five hours, and on one day's rest get a result against a physical, direct team under tough weather conditions.''
UA has two regular-season games remaining, both away. If the Zips win at Western Michigan Nov. 3, they will host the MAC Tournament.
